Prepared by Radif Partners · How we calculate · 2026 table (Federal Law Gazette 2026 I No. 80) and ZPO checked on 28 October 2026

The German garnishment table for 2026 applies from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027. It is the annex to the exemption-limit notice of 19 March 2026, published in the Federal Law Gazette (2026 I No. 80). There are three parts, for pay received monthly, weekly or daily. Each monthly row covers a band of €10, and each row gives the amount a creditor may take when you support zero to five people under a legal duty. With no dependants nothing can be taken below €1,590 net a month. The table stops at €4,866.30; everything above that can go to the creditor in full. Example: on €2,500 net with one dependant, €157.59 is attachable, and €638.82 with no dependants. The figure that goes into the table is the net pay defined in section 850e of the Code of Civil Procedure: after income tax and social contributions, and without exempt parts such as half of any overtime pay.

How to read the official table

The table answers a single question: how much of a given net wage may a creditor receive? On the left is the net pay band, on the right the attachable amount in six columns, from no dependants to five or more. A dash means nothing is attachable in that row. Because each monthly row is €10 wide, the amount does not change with every cent but in steps: by €7 per row with no dependants, by €5 with one.

The figures are not an estimate. They follow from a fixed calculation in section 850c ZPO. First, a basic amount of €1,587.40 a month is exempt. The first dependant adds €597.42, the second to fifth add €332.83 each. Of the net pay above that allowance, seven tenths can be taken when you have no dependants, five tenths with one, then one tenth less for each further person, until one tenth is left at five people.

We recalculated every row

Before publishing, we read in the three tables of the 2026 notice and the three of the 2025 notice from the Federal Law Gazette and compared every row with our own calculation: 329 monthly, 302 weekly and 302 daily rows for 2026, each for six columns and for the lower and upper edge of the band. There is no difference, not even by a cent. The page how we calculate explains the arithmetic.

Which net figure goes into the table

What counts is not the amount that lands in your bank account but the attachable net pay under section 850e ZPO. Income tax, solidarity surcharge, church tax and social insurance contributions come off the gross wage. Payments that section 850a ZPO protects in whole or in part are left out as well, such as half of any overtime pay or a Christmas bonus up to €795. Amounts your employer keeps back for a savings plan or to repay an advance stay in the net figure. The page working out attachable income goes through it step by step.

Month, week, day

If you are paid weekly, the weekly table applies; if you are paid by the day, the daily one. The limits are smaller to match: the basic allowance is €365.33 a week and €73.06 a day, the ceiling €1,119.90 and €223.99. Choose the period in the calculator above. Short pay periods and casual jobs are covered under weekly and daily pay.

The table applies to any creditor enforcing an ordinary debt, such as a collection agency, a bank or the tax office. Maintenance creditors face tighter limits, set by the court in the order itself; see maintenance garnishment. Money in a bank account is protected not by the table but by the P-account allowance.

Common questions

Which column of the German table applies to me?

The column depends on how many people you support because the law requires it and you actually pay: a spouse, a registered partner, children and, rarely, parents. An unmarried partner does not count. Nothing changes after the fifth person; the last column covers five or more. If one of these people has income of their own, the court can leave them out on the creditor’s application.

Why does the table move in steps of 10 euros?

Section 850c(5) ZPO requires it. Net pay is rounded down to the next amount divisible by 10 for monthly pay, by 2.50 for weekly pay and by 0.50 for daily pay. Every net figure inside one row therefore leads to the same attachable amount. Your employer only has to find the row and never has to work anything out alone.

Does the new table apply to a garnishment that is already running?

Yes. Garnishment orders normally refer to the table in force at the time, and section 850c(5) ZPO says that reference is enough. From the first pay period starting on 1 July 2026 your employer uses the new values without the creditor or the court doing anything. Earlier pay periods are still worked out with the 2025 table.

What happens to net pay above the ceiling of the table?

The part of your net pay above €4,866.30 is fully attachable under section 850c(3) sentence 3 ZPO, so it no longer appears in any row. The calculator takes that excess off first, looks up the last row of the table for the rest and adds the two. At €5,000 net with no dependants, €133.70 is added to the table value.
